Child Youth Care Worker- CYCW

Definition:
The Child Youth Care Worker performs child and youth mental health work in establishing and maintaining therapeutic relationships with children and youth with complex mental health and/or addiction issues who require long term residential treatment at a youth treatment centre;
Demonstrates understanding of behavioral and emotional needs and problems of youth and deals decisively with youth in crisis;
Records observed data on young people’s behavior, interactions, and incidents; Initiates, organizes, monitors and/or participates in group activities as part of the total treatment plan;
Develops, implements and oversees behavioral, recreational, social and life skills programs for young people

NLCHI has received a request from Eastern Health Region for new codes: "Child Youth Care Worker" and "Recreation Development Specialist" as the region is adding these two provider types to to their Meditech MIS Provider Dictionary.

As we have expanded our EHR to Regional Health Authorities, we map their Meditech MIS Providers to "HealthCareProviderRoleType" subset.
Currently, the "HealthCareProviderRoleType" subset doesn’t have codes that suitably match the scope of duties "Child Youth Care Worker" and "Recreation Development Specialist" perform. Therefore, NLCHI is requesting to add "Child Youth Care Worker" and "Recreation Development Specialist" to the "HealthCareProviderRoleType".
